Ankles, Knees, and Hips, Oh My!
By Brandi Goodman
The ankles, hips, and knees are some of the most common areas people feel pain in their lower body. It can be difficult to alleviate the pain and get pressure off the joints without some tips in mind. Take some chiropractic advice and you may find yourself experiencing less pain and a better range of motion in your lower body than usual.
Work to Strengthen Your Problem Area
Strengthening the particular area you're experiencing pain or problems with can help to lessen the aches felt and restore your range of motion. If your knee is the problem, be sure to do exercises that target this area, such as wall squats or single leg raises. When your ankles are giving you trouble, rotate them clockwise and then counterclockwise to give them a stretch. Standing calf raises are also ideal. You can strengthen the hips by laying on your back with your feet hip-width apart. Form a bridge by raising your hips off the floor and keeping your core tight.
Wear Braces
If a certain area of your body is troubling you, it may be ideal to wear a brace for a while. You do not have to wear it forever, but keep it on when performing strenuous activities or during periods of pain. Knee, ankle, and hip braces are all available from online retailers or medical supply stores.
Take to the Pool
The water is a great place for people to exercise. This is especially true for those who suffer from ankle, knee, or hip problems because working out on hard surfaces can be harsh on the body. The water will ease the impact on the joints and allow you to get in a good workout without worrying about painful aftereffects.
