Better Health May Be at Your Fingertips, Literally

By Tom Herrin

Most people have a real desire to improve their health.  They normally believe that such progress will only be the result of highly active exercise or some game that requires a high level of participation.  While at first thought this seems right, the fact is that there are other ways to improve health without all of that motion. One way to do so is isometrics.  Years ago, they were pretty common and done by a lot of people. They have made a little bit of a comeback in recent years. Isometrics involve working against some kind of resistance that is basically immovable.  A common sight at one time was people touching the fingertips of both hands together and pressing against each other while holding them in front of them.

They May Work Against Aging's Muscle Loss

As people age, they often lose muscle mass.  Some of it may be due to the fact that they become less active, but much of it is because they simply experience some loss of muscle strength.  Without working those muscles, this loss will continue. Many struggle with performing physical tasks or even attempting to do some kind of exercise.  Isometrics can help to work those muscles without some of the potential strain that comes with exercise that includes moving. They have a good record of building muscles with little motion.

They May Help with Recovery

When muscles have been injured, there must be a plan of how to work them while they recover from those injuries.  Isometrics can strengthen muscles without the risk of damaging them by straining. Isometrics can build muscles by concentrating on fairly specific areas.  The body will naturally check itself when resistance becomes great. It is pretty difficult to strain a muscle while doing isometrics.

They May Save Time and Space

Isometrics may be done in very little space.  They may also be done in a short period of time.  Good results can be achieved by concentrating on specific locations in need of improvement.  I have had experience with doing isometrics and been pretty successful. I felt that I was able to achieve the results I wanted in a fairly short period of time.  If you are looking for that simpler way to improve health, try some isometrics for a few weeks. If you know what you want to achieve, you are likely to do it. If you are wanting to improve those chest muscles, start with those fingertips.
