By Donna Stark
Does your life feel more rushed, hectic, and busier than ever? Are you so wrapped up in work and with taking care of others that you push your own physical and mental health aside? It's easy to get swept away by all your daily responsibilities and obligations, but don't let that be the reason why you ignore your own needs and desires. If you find yourself picking up the crumbs after giving everyone else the best of you, it may be time to slow down! Here are some simple strategies you can incorporate into your days that will help you embrace a slower pace of life.
Limit Technology
If you want to create, connect, or consume, technology is your answer. But all those electronic devices in our homes and hands can seriously add more work to your already busy days. A great start in slowing down is to set boundaries and unplug from those distracting machines. Set time limits for your social media scrolling, keep your work at work, silence some of the notifications on your phone, and turn off all devices at least an hour before bed.
Learn to Say No
Learning to say no is hard, but if you want more time to do what you love, it's necessary. Saying no is a great way to set boundaries, preserve your energy, and maintain a healthy space in your life so you can take care of your own needs. Some people have trouble saying no because they think it is selfish, but it is actually quite the opposite. To make it easier, just remember that you don't have to say no to everything!
Connect With Those You Love
Whether it's a meal, a movie night, or a day at the zoo, spending time with loved ones is one of the best ways to slow things down. Doing so encourages us to relax, take a break from our busy schedules, and embrace the moment. It also helps to remind us of what is truly important and what matters most in our lives.
Stop the Habit of Multitasking
Sure, there are definitely moments during your day when multitasking is effective but sometimes, it can actually cause a person to feel worse. It can leave you feeling rushed, stressed, and overwhelmed. It may also keep you from giving your all and can lead to plenty of mistakes. So instead, why don't you try doing things one at a time? Doing so will force you to slow down, and who knows? You may even find yourself enjoying that so much more!
