Thinking of Skipping? 3 Reasons to Exercise Anyway

By Genevieve Cunningham

Exercise is a habit worth keeping. It builds strong bodies, helps maintain a healthy weight, and boosts mental and physical health in general. But even though we know of its many benefits, so many of us still have the tendency to skip a workout (or many!) from time to time. We have a million excuses, and unfortunately, we use these excuses far too often. While this may seem harmless, skipping workouts can be more detrimental than you realize. If you’re thinking of skipping your next workout, take a look at these reasons why you should suck it up and exercise anyway.

It Keeps the Habit Alive

Once you break the habit of almost anything, it becomes a lot more difficult to get involved again. Habits are generally hard to create, but it doesn’t take much to break them. And do you really want to start over creating a workout habit? Probably not. Even if you’re not feeling the exercise for the day, do it just to keep the routine and habit alive. Slow way down or walk if you have to, but maintain that routine to protect your habit and health in the future.

It Will Boost Your Mood

A lot of times, we don’t want to work out simply because we’re not in the mood. But what we fail to realize is that getting in some exercise will actually boost our mood. Exercise creates endorphins, and this chemical creates happiness in the body. If you’re set on skipping the routine for the day, just change your clothes and get started. Soon, your mood will change and you’ll likely enjoy the rest of the workout.

You’ll Be Glad When It’s Over

Here’s the truth: We skip a lot of workouts, and then we feel bad about it. If you just get up and get moving, you’ll be so glad that you did once it’s over. It’s such a short amount of time in the grand scheme of the day. Don’t live with regret. Instead, push through and enjoy that feeling of satisfaction that follows.

It’s tempting to skip your workout. It’s much more appealing to go home, put on some pajamas, and binge some Netflix. But skipping workouts won’t do anything for your ultimate well-being. Do your best to exercise every single day, and you’ll be more likely to reach your long-term fitness goals and feel successful in your quest for better health.
