Why Fitness Fads Aren't Worth It
By Genevieve Cunningham
Getting fit is serious business. In fact, there's an entire industry -- the fitness industry -- that focuses solely on losing weight and improving the appearance of your body. While much of the fitness world is truly beneficial and helpful, there's an area of the industry that many aren't sure about. What is it? Fads. The eat this for a month or try this 10-minute workout and get ripped type fads. The claims on these programs are big, and it can be tempting to buy in. But should you? If you’re trying to get fit and healthy, take a look at why you should probably skip the fads for good.
They’re Playing to Your Panic
When a lot of people get ready to get fit, they want it now. They have a reunion or a big date coming up, and they want to look good. Fads play directly to these panic situations. The truth is that getting fit takes time and dedication. While these programs might give you a headstart, the only way to make it last is with real lifestyle changes.
They All Have the Same Basic Principle
While you may think that some of these fad programs have the secret sauce to weight loss, the truth is that they all have the same basic principle behind them. They are going to require you to eat less and move more. Basically, they're going to rely on calories in versus calories out. And while it might work, you don't need it to apply this principle to your life. Skip the fad, count your calories, exercise more, and you will be on your way to a healthier life.
They Cost a Lot of Money
If we're being completely honest, these fad programs often cost a lot of money. It may sound like a good deal, but the truth is that you don't need them. You can work out on your own or at your gym. You can use the internet to get a better grasp of nutrition. You can simply count your calories to make sure that you are consuming less than you burn. If you have the money to burn, go ahead. But if not, you don't have to spend the money, and can instead spend your time, energy, and effort elsewhere to get yourself fit and healthy.
Fitness fads can work, it’s true. They can definitely get you moving down the right path. But to be honest, you don’t have to have them ro get fit. You don’t have to spend the money, and you don’t have to join in on the craze. Slow and steady and consistent wins the race when it comes to fitness. So skip the fad, dedicate your life to healthy living, and you’ll feel like your best self in no time at all.
