3 Health Tips to Remember During Travel Season
By Genevieve Cunningham
The biggest travel season of the year is quickly approaching. Thanksgiving, followed closely by Christmas, is the hot time for traveling to see friends and family. And while this means a ton of fun and adventure, it also means a challenge on your health. Staying healthy while on the go is a task, but it’s possible if you know what to do and where to start. To keep yourself healthy through this travel season, take a look at these tips to remember.
Layers are Important
When it’s time to travel, it’s also a great time to layer up. Just because it’s warm or cold at your home, that doesn’t mean the weather will be the same at your intended destination. Wear appropriate clothing, and then take a sweater, jacket, scarf, hat, or other layers. This can help you stay comfortable no matter the weather, which may keep you from catching a chill or becoming overheated. Long-term, this can save you from certain colds and illnesses based on exposure to the elements.
Planning Ahead is Key
One of the best ways to stay healthy through the travel season is by planning ahead. When you travel unplanned, it often means more trips through the drive-thru, unhealthy snacks from gas stations, a complete lack of exercise, and other convenient but unhealthy habits. With a little planning, you can schedule enough time to take a walk, plan healthy snacks in advance, and pack a cooler full of healthy meals. Though unplanned trips will still happen, the more prepared you are, the easier it is to stay healthy.
Wash and Wipe Down
Hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes are your travel friend. When you’re exposed to germs through other people, unsanitary conditions, or a combination of outside influences, having these cleaning devices can help keep germs away. Wipe down the car, door knobs, and tables. Wash your hands at every opportunity or use hand sanitizer to keep the hands clean. This little tool is incredibly effective, and yet it’s still inexpensive enough to make healthy travel a breeze.
It’s possible to make it through travel season without ruining your health, but it will take some effort. Use these tips to get you moving in the right direction, and you may enjoy better health now, during the holidays, and through to the other side.
