How to Sleep Soundly Every Night
By Genevieve Cunningham
Getting enough sleep is an incredibly difficult task. If you have kids, you probably haven’t slept well in years. If you have a stressful job, you may only sleep well intermittently. Our lives are busy and hectic, and sleep is one of the first aspects to suffer from this busyness. So what can we do to get a little more shut-eye? If you’re ready to improve your health with more sleep, take a look at these tips for getting sound sleep as soon as tonight.
Go to Bed at the Same Time Every Night
If you don’t want to call it a bedtime, don’t call it that. But essentially, you need to give yourself a bedtime. When we go to bed at roughly the same time every night, our bodies get used to the constant rhythm. As time wears on, you may find that as bedtime nears, your body starts to get sleepy. And before long, you’ll be falling asleep within minutes of your bedtime. Does this take work? Yes! Does this take consistency? Yes! Is it worth it? Absolutely, yes!
Get Electronics Out of Your Room
Electronics are so good for making life easier. They streamline processes, give us ample information, and stifle boredom. But for the bedroom, they’re one of the worst things ever! Electronics keep our minds stimulated. They strain our eyes. They keep us awake when we really should be sleeping. If you want better sleep, get your electronics out of the room. Don’t watch TV until you fall asleep. Don’t play on your phone. The more you learn to do without electronics at night, the better sleep you’ll likely find.
Buy Blackout Curtains
Light often keeps us awake and we don’t even realize it. When light from the road or cars or neighbors comes in through the windows, it can keep us awake. If light bothers you, try putting blackout curtains on your bedroom windows. This helps convince your mind and eyes that it really is nighttime and it really is time to sleep. It might take some getting used to, but most people who use this approach find that their sleep deepens like never before.
Getting enough good sleep is a crucial part of living a healthy life. And chances are good that you’re just not getting enough! Use these tips to get more sleep, improve the quality of sleep, and simply feel better about your nighttime habits. With just a little more sleep, you’ll probably find yourself feeling better than ever for a more positive and productive life every day.
