How to Improve Your Workspace
By Sara Butler
How many hours do you spend each week at work? If it’s more than you care to admit, and it’s spent at a desk in front of a computer, then you need to ensure your workspace is supporting good spinal health. The chiropractors at The Joint have a few easy workspace solutions you can use to help you keep your back and body healthy as you earn your living.
Your Chair
Where you park your body for hours at a time needs to be supportive. A chair that’s friendly to your posture with a cushion that’s comfortable is important, but you should also look for a chair that has arm support, adjustable height, and the ability to roll and swivel. It’s also a good idea to set a reminder on your phone or computer to help you remember to get up and move around at least once per hour. Just doing this for a few minutes will help keep your back healthy.
Your Screens
Make sure your computer screen is at or just below eye level so you don’t have to dip your chin down to view it. If your neck and head tilt too far forward, even just a little, then you are at risk for developing tech neck. This condition can cause pain and discomfort in your shoulder, back, and neck.
Your Desk
Traditional desks are fine, but you may want to explore standing desks. These desks allow you to complete your work as you stand, making it more difficult to slouch. It can help take some of the pressure off your spine that’s placed on it when sitting, too.
Your Accessories
If you work with a laptop, you may want to consider hooking up a full keyboard to it and using a mouse as well. These devices are more ergonomically correct and their function helps to better support your body and health.
You spend so much of your time at work, make sure you’re doing it in a way that will help you retain good spinal health as well as good overall health too. If you have any questions, be sure to contact the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic today! You don’t need an appointment -- you can come in today for an assessment and begin working toward better health.
