Living as Long as Possible Is a Reasonable Goal
By Tom Herrin
Have you ever wondered just what you may be able to do in order to increase your lifespan? If so, you may have thought the answer would be nothing. Another answer may be that you need to lose lots of weight or do plenty of exercise. While those may well be important, there are other things that can make a significant difference. It is largely a matter of becoming aware of what we can do and following through that may have the greatest impact. Many have little or no cost but only commitment.
Treat Your Skin With Respect
Many of us spend quite a bit of time in the sun. if we work outdoors much of the time, it may be unavoidable. Skin cancers seem to be a common issue that many deal with. For some, it can be serious. Getting a regular screening for skin cancers can help to head off any problems. They may be identified early and, most of the time, easily treated. I have had several removed by several methods. While I have no continuing problems due to it, I know that had I not had them taken care of, it could be serious. We should also make a point to wear appropriate hats, clothing, and sunscreen as much as possible.
Be Grateful for What We Have
It is important for any of us to stop and be thankful. It may not seem like such a big deal, but when we truly show appreciation, it can help us to become more secure. Attitude is something that is difficult to quantify. Studies have found that those who develop a more positive attitude can experience less stress and improve their overall outlook. Showing thanks can become an exercise in itself that is well worthwhile.
Keep a Handle on Stress
All of us get more stress than we need in our lives. Managing it can help us to allow plenty of things to function better. We will likely get more sleep as well as maintain good blood pressure. We may also have better digestion. I enjoy taking a walk or riding my bicycle anytime I feel that stress is getting the best of me. It works pretty well. Others may simply identify the source of their stress and make a plan to address it. Managing stress is a must for your list of actions for helping you to live longer.
