Beware in Choosing Healthy Drinks
By Tom Herrin
In an effort to do all that we can for our health, many of us are now choosing to forego a lot of beverages that may be considered to be less than good for us. As we pass on soft drinks, or other drinks that seem to be packed with sugars, we may be selecting from those advertised as some kind of water with special additives. Without a doubt, water is always an essential, and choosing it over something else is good. What we may need to exercise more caution with is whether or not those added ingredients really do something to promote better health. In some cases, they do, but in others, it is just so much fluff.
Some Additives Are for Sales
There may very well be some great things to enhance water, but many of the things that have been put in are simply poor substitutes for good things. Some are only for flavors, which is not all bad for those wanting to cut some other things out that may add to problems. Many others are being marketed on the basis of providing some kind of an energy boost. This could be due to excess sugar, but it is often because of something added such as caffeine. In some instances, it is far more than a reasonable amount. These may be more addictive than helpful.
Natural Juices May Be a Great Choice
There are many varieties of drinks that have small amounts of natural juices as one ingredient. Some of them may indeed be healthy choices. Lemon water has been a favorite of some people for a long time. It can provide a good source of vitamins, and it seems to help with acting as a natural diuretic for some. It can be a refreshing drink as well. Homemade lemonade has been a favorite of lots of individuals for generations.
Add Flavors for Good Health
At times, I have found myself drinking some kind of carbonated drinks more than I should. I tend to be a streak drinker of things such as that. When I find that I have overindulged in these drinks, I usually try to switch to ordering water with flavors added. One of my personal favorites is water with lime and strawberries. It tastes like a very light strawberry-limeade. It really is good and guilt-free.
