A Vacation May Save a Lot More Than It Costs

By Tom Herrin

Maintaining health should be a priority for everyone.  It is not always easy but it is a basic necessity. When health fails, misery begins.  Most people have seen or known those who suffer from the effects of poor health. As the saying goes, “if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.”  In the hectic world of striving to succeed, people have to compromise too many times. Working extra hours, skipping meals, and missing family outings can only create a greater burden on the health of those who are affected.  One of the best ways for the entire family to take care of this is to take a vacation. All employers offer some kind of vacation time.

It May Protect the Heart

Multiple studies have shown the health benefits of taking a regular vacation.  Some have shown that men may be less likely to die of heart attacks or anything not related to age.  Others have shown that women who don’t take them seem to be increasing their chances of coronary problems considerably as compared to those who take them two times per year.  Indications are that in this fast-paced world, vacations appear to be increasingly important for the heart.

It Could Improve Mental Sharpness

In any job, mental alertness is important.  Without it, people experience many more accidents at work or home.  Many jobs require an employee to use some creativity. It is no different from school.  Creativity is a plus for success, and those who take vacations tend to benefit from seeing new things and having new experiences.  Evidence points to an improved ability for the mind to respond in a positive way to this kind of stimulus.

It May Improve Relationships

Even those who feel their relationships are good can usually gain from a vacation.  When we take them, everyone in our family wins. We love road trips. For us, we have found that we improve our communication with each other greatly as we ride together.  Even when we have only gone tent camping or spent the day at an amusement park or zoo, the time has been precious. We always grow closer together. Whether you want better physical, emotional, or mental health, a vacation may fill the bill.  No matter when it is, take one. It could be an easy decision that may enrich your life.
