Expand Your Fruit Menu for Your Good Health

By Tom Herrin

Getting stuck in a rut can apply to lots of things.  It is much more than mere jobs and other things that get the (bad) publicity.  Each day people tend to go to bed at the same time,  get up at the same time, have the same entertainment, eat the same foods, and on and on.  It can sometimes make it difficult for them to make any kind of meaningful change in what they do.  It may also create some challenges when it comes time to look at other foods to include in their diet.  This is one of the reasons it is hard for some to adopt a new diet.  Small changes are much simpler.  Adding something to a diet does not have to upset the apple cart.  It may, however, be good to substitute something else for apples.  Another fruit that can be helpful is a simple pear.

They May Be Good for the Heart

Pears contain some pretty useful nutrients.  One of those is potassium.  It can play a great role in protecting health, particularly the heart.  It serves as a vasodilator in that it helps the blood vessels to expand under pressure.  This can help maintain blood pressure at a desired level.  This can also save excessive wear on the heart.  Pressure on the heart can make it age prematurely.  It wears it out often without much warning until it has done extensive damage.

They May Be Useful in Weight Loss

Managing weight is an ongoing struggle for many.  Cutting calories can require quite a bit of self-discipline.  An average pear only has around 100 calories.  Their high water content and high fiber make them a great snack or dessert.  Eating one can provide a feeling of being full for longer.  It can also help to regulate bowels.  In other words, one pear may be able to take care of lots of health issues.

They Are Quick and Easy

A pear may be the fastest food you can eat.  It seems strange to say, but they are so soft they required very little chewing.  If you choose to eat a raw pear, you will finish it before you have even walked across the room.  Of course, they are always good in desserts or made into preserves.  For a little fine tuning of your diet to become a little healthier, try adding some pears.
