Are You Trying to Avoid Carbonated Drinks?

By Tom Herrin

For those of us who are trying to make decisions to live as healthy as possible, we may get to the place for drinks on our list.  Usually when we struggle with this, we simply fall back to water.  For sure, there is nothing better, but even that can get a little old from time to time.  We may be hit with a desire to live a little in that we want to indulge ourselves in something with more flavor.  This isn't all bad because we may be able to have flavor with drinks that still fit the definition of being healthy.  It only requires a little careful searching to find something that fits us.

Have You Tried All of the Pure Juices?

When any of us think we have tried it all, we probably could do some more trying.  We all feel that we have exhausted all of our ideas when, in fact, we haven't.  Proof of this is when someone asks what we want for dinner.  At our house, even though we seek variety, we end up with the same few choices when we are in a hurry.  Drinks may be that way as well.  One you may have eaten as a fruit but never had as juice could be pomegranate.  In one study, it was found to improve memory.  In another one, it lowered cholesterol and helped to control blood blood pressure.  It is also high in fiber.

You Can Always Go Back to Lemon Water

More than likely, you have had lemon water on many occasions.  It seems as if every time we ate out as kids, they served water with a slice of lemon.  Even though this is a simple drink, it has Vitamin C and is thought to boost immunities.  It is generally refreshing and has very few calories.  It may be just enough to cut into plain water.

Add Other Flavors to Water

It is surprising just how adding fruit flavors can liven up water.  It doesn't take much to make a big difference.  We enjoy drinking water with added flavors whenever we get the chance.  They are always very light drinks and pretty refreshing.  Mixing a variety of flavors can produce some interesting flavors.  The next time you are looking for that drink that can do what you need, try adding some flavors to water.  You may be pleasantly surprised.
