Summer Solutions as Told by the Chiropractor

By Brandi Goodman

The summer season sees an increasing amount of physical activity done outdoors. Whether you plan on bike riding, walking, or even just soaking up the sun, the chiropractor has some summer solutions that can help you avoid discomfort. Utilize these methods so you can spend your summer enjoying the weather instead of being stuck inside sick or sore.

Adjust Your Bike Properly

You need a bike that fits well with your body. You shouldn't be sitting so tall that you have to lean forward and arch your back to reach the handlebars. You shouldn't sit so low, either, requiring you to keep your arms extended. A properly adjusted bike will ensure you can hold your posture and ride without quickly developing aches. You may want to get a new, more comfortable seat as well.

Wear Athletic Shoes

Avoid going barefoot or wearing sandals in the summer. It might be nice at times to let your feet breathe and be in the open air, but flat shoes do not offer the comfort and stability you need for walking. When you're at the beach, go ahead and take your shoes off. Any other time when you'll be on the move, you need athletic shoes with support and cushion that helps absorb some of the shock each step enables.

Stay Hydrated

The summer heat can quickly bog down your brain and body. You need to stay hydrated if you have any hope of enjoying your outdoor time and not getting fatigued or ill because of the sun exposure. Make sure to bring a bottle of water or two with you so you can get a drink when you need it.

Stretch Before Activities

One of the best things you can do for your body is stretch. You should be stretching before engaging in any physical activities. It will help ensure your joints are flexible enough to handle the movements involved and help prevent injury. A well-hydrated and properly stretched body can withstand much more activity than one that has not been adequately hydrated and lacks mobility.

Give these summer solutions a try and keep your discomfort to a minimum this summer. You can enjoy any physical activities in the sun you desire as long as you keep a few things in mind. If you do experience some aches, stop in at The Joint Chiropractic for assistance.
