Chiropractic Tips for Cold and Rainy Weather

By Brandi Goodman

The rain and cold weather can lead to aches within your body. It can also lead to mishaps because of the slippery conditions. With some chiropractic tips in mind, you can handle the cold and rainy weather much easier.

Stretch Well and Exercise

The cold can keep your joints feeling stiff. Make sure you're stretching well -- and often. This will help keep them limber and help you feel like your normal self. You should also maintain an exercise routine. Exercise helps keeps the joints and bones limber as well. You'll be more likely to stay upright on your feet in slippery conditions if you have a strong core and body due to exercise.

Dress in Layers

Layers can help when you're outside. The cold won't cause as many aches if you're feeling warm in the clothes you're wearing. Mornings tend to be colder than afternoons in many areas. Having layers on ensures you can take things off as needed throughout the day. Being overheated can cause problems as well.

Choose Ergonomic Tools

You may be tending to yard work outdoors in the cool air. Trying to rake up leaves with a too-short tool won't do you any favors, either. Bending over your rake to get the job done will only lead to more pain. You need to choose ergonomic tools that won't leave you aching. A bent handle that allows you to maneuver it at a better angle is wise. Make sure you choose a lightweight leaf blower as well that won't be too heavy to carry around.

See a Chiropractor

You may not have thought you needed the chiropractor as often throughout the summer months. You may have felt great, enjoying lots of outdoor activities and soaking up the sun. Once the cold starts to set in, however, you might experience achy joints and more discomfort than you'd like. You can see a chiropractor to determine if the weather is the problem or there's other reasons for your struggles. Regular care throughout the fall and winter may be recommended if you notice a significant difference between your joints in the cold season compared to the warm.

Don't let your joints ache in the cold or the wet ground cause a fall. Keep chiropractic in mind so you can keep your body in the best shape possible no matter the weather. If you still experience discomfort, be sure to stop in at The Joint for an assessment.
