Exercises That Are Good for Nighttime Workouts

By Genevieve Cunningham

Summer is almost here, and with summer comes a shift in some of our usual routines. You might spend more time outdoors. You might stay up a little later at night. And when it comes to working out, you may shift your exercise to the evening. Why? This helps you beat the heat! But when you change the timing of your workout, it may be appropriate to change the activity as well. So what should you do? What makes for a good evening or night time workout? If you need some good ideas for how to shift your exercise routine to the evening hours, take a look at these great workouts to give a try.

Walking

Walking is good at any time of day. Going for a walk at night can help you burn off dinner calories, calm the mind before bed, and work out any stiffness from the day. It’s a laid back, low-impact way to get some exercise, which is why it’s so great for the night time. Ask a friend to join you, and then find a nice trail or a well lit area of town. You might be surprised at how enjoyable a nighttime walk really is, and how much good it brings to the body and mind.

Yoga

Yoga is a great way to exercise, and it’s also a good way to wind down and relax. The calmness and peace that comes with yoga is what makes it a great evening workout. After a good yoga session, you might feel less stress, a greater sense of calm, stretched from head to toe, and much more relaxed. And this feeling transitions well into your bedtime routine. If you need something that helps you feel more prepared for sleep, yoga is a great choice.

Cycling

Cycling, much like walking, is great at any time of day. But there’s something about a summer evening ride that just feels good. Cycling helps to burn calories and works the lower half of the body. But what makes it great for a warm evening is the breeze against your face. It just feels good! Find a trail around town, grab a bike, and give this one a try. You’ll probably find it to be a lot of fun, and you’ll get an incredible workout at the same time.

Working out in the evening can be a good idea, especially when the temperatures are creeping upward. Use these workouts to get fit and have fun at the same time. They feel good, are hard work, and challenge you without too much strain. Give them a try this evening, and you may find a great workout to transition into the warm months ahead.
