A Better Night's Sleep is Possible: Here's How

By Virginia Laird

Each year millions report struggling to get a good night of sleep. For many of those who are suffering with sleep issues, it can seem to be an endless situation, one that often times seems to have no solution. However, health and wellness experts say there are plenty of things you can do to help encourage a good night of sleep. A few tips to try to include:

  • Give yourself a bedtime
  • Consider a nighttime routine
  • Find time for the gym

Give Yourself a Bedtime

It is said that giving yourself a bedtime can prove to be successful in helping promote a good night of sleep. As you stick to a bedtime the body begins to know when it is time to retire. This helps the body to relax better each night. Although sticking to bedtime can prove to be quite difficult, especially for those with young children, it is necessary. It is suggested that you give yourself a bedtime early enough that allows for you to get the suggested six hours of sleep each night. However, there are plenty who require much more than this. Knowing how much you need and what time you should be hitting the pillow to achieve such sleep is key to getting enough of it.

Consider a Nighttime Routine

Sleep experts say that a nighttime routine can be beneficial in helping the body to relax completely. A bedtime routine should be right before you hit the pillow and last no longer than 20 minutes. These experts say that your routine should include only activities that help relax the body. A few activities to consider including in your nighttime routine are reading, meditation, and stretching. Start today trying out a nighttime routine to see if your body can more fully relax prior to hitting the pillow.

Find Time for the Gym

There is research to suggest that exercise can be good for your sleep. Sleep experts say that getting a little bit of exercise each evening can help the body burn energy that might otherwise prevent it from fully relaxing. It is suggested that you get at least 20 minutes of a workout whether in a gym or a brisk walk through your neighborhood each evening prior to bedtime. Start giving this a try to see if it will improve your ability to rest well.

Now is the time to do all you can to improve your sleep so that you can be more productive both at home and at your job.
