The Bad Year Detox
By Donna Stark
Whew! It's been a tough year, hasn't it? Fortunately, the year is nearing its end, but what does that mean for the upcoming one heading our way? Are you ready to welcome the new year with open and forgiving arms? Well, if you aren't sure you are physically, emotionally, and mentally prepared to hang another calendar on the wall, keep reading! Your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have some suggestions on how you can detox all the negativity from this past year and get your body, mind, and spirit ready for the new one that's right around the corner. Take a look.
Sweat it Out
Daily physical activity improves your overall health and wellness while also reducing the damaging toll stress can have on your body. Exercise also encourages your body's natural detoxification process by increasing circulation, clearing out your lungs, and regulating sweat. At a minimum, all you need is 30 minutes a day, so you shouldn't have any problems fitting it into your schedule.
Take a Break
Turn your TV off and put your phone's notifications on silent. It's time to take a break from the round-the-clock negative news cycle. Spend the extra time you have by doing so with your family or friends. Or get back to that hobby you have pushed to the side. Whatever you decide to do, your mental and emotional health will thank you for it.
Load up on Antioxidants
Stressful situations can take their toll on your body in the form of free radicals, but don't let that scare you. You can combat those free radicals by consuming an antioxidant-rich diet. Try to increase your consumption of the following foods.
- Berries
- Dark chocolate
- Green tea
- Pomegranates
- Apples
- Sweet potatoes
Get Your Sleep
There is no way you can enter the new year feeling your best if you are sleep-deprived, so make sure you are prioritizing your rest! Sleep is the time the body uses to recharge, repair, and refresh itself. Your body simply can't function the way it was designed unless you learn how to maintain a consistent sleep schedule. Try to aim for at least seven hours of rest each night by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day.
Say Goodbye to the Old and Hello to the New
In just a few weeks the new year will be here, so make sure you are ready for it! Try to incorporate the suggestions above so you can detox all the negativity from the past year and welcome your fresh beginning with open arms!
