Packing Lighter Suitcases for Your Health!
By Donna Stark
Traveling is a great way to rest, relax, and step away from the things that cause you to stress, but if you aren't careful with the things you pack, you could end up in a lot of pain and discomfort. Why? Well, the heavier your suitcases are, the more likely you could be hurt while lifting them. And nobody wants to start their vacation in pain, right? That's why your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have listed their favorite tips on how to pack lightly but still bring everything you need. Take a look.
Plan Ahead
Would you like to avoid the frantic, chaotic packing that occurs when you wait until just a few hours before your trip to load your suitcases? Waiting until the last minute usually leads to rash decisions and extreme overpacking. So, instead of doing that, take some time a couple of days before your trip to sit down and plan what you would like to bring. That way, you will have plenty of opportunities to think about what is really needed. Keep the weather and your planned activities in mind while doing this.
Choose Versatility
You can easily pack less by choosing versatile pieces that can be intermingled with one another. Items that can be mixed and matched or worn for multiple days are key to lightening your load. The same goes for accessories and shoes, too! Try to consider using the items you can get a few wearings out of as much as you can.
Leave the Extras at Home
Sure, there are a lot of what-ifs during traveling to consider, but if one of those what-ifs were to happen, and you didn't have what you wanted, would you still be OK? If you only pack one swimsuit in your bag but end up going to the beach every day, could you still survive? Yes, you could! Sure, you may have to rinse your suit off when you get home each night and let it out to dry, but that's still better than carrying an extra seven suits just "to be safe."
Cut Back on Toiletries
You've only planned a week for your vacation, so why are you packing your 64-ounce containers of shampoo and conditioner? And do you really need to bring the full-sized bottles of your 12-step skincare routine with you? Before you start packing for this trip, head to your local dollar store and pick up some travel containers. You should only ever bring the amount you actually intend to use.
Packing Lighter for Less Risk
If your goal is to arrive at your destination feeling as good as you can, follow the tips above. These suggestions will help reduce your risk of getting hurt while lifting and carrying your suitcases, and help ensure your vacation is everything you hoped it would be!
