Prevent School Pain In-Person or Online
By Brandi Goodman
Two options exist for schooling. Online instruction at home and in-person learning in a school setting are both available choices. No matter which you choose, there's bound to be some pain that arises. With some tips in mind, you can prevent school pain no matter if you're working in-person or online and ensure a safe learning environment.
Load Your Backpack Lightly
When attending school, you most likely have a backpack to carry all your belongings. Be sure you're loading your bag lightly and not overdoing it. Too much weight inside can cause some serious discomfort for your shoulders and back. You should also be sure to use both shoulder straps so all weight inside the bag is distributed across your back evenly.
Choose an Ergonomic Chair
Working from home can be made more comfortable by having an ergonomic chair. Don't sit on your bed or at the counter to do your schoolwork. Instead, create a proper workstation -- chair, desk, and all -- so you have an organized area that keeps you comfortable and focused. Several of the chair's components should be adjustable so you can fit it to your specific height and needs.
Stay Hydrated
No matter if you're at home or at school, hydration is key to pain-free learning. Your joints can become stiff and bothered easily if you don't keep them lubricated. Make sure to keep a bottle of water nearby and drink plenty throughout the day for proper hydration.
Stretch Regularly
You also need to be stretching whether you're in school or at home. Sitting for long periods at a desk can leave your back and legs aching. Get up and stretch when you can to keep your joints from locking up. Even a quick stretch in your seat, such as extending your legs or rotating your neck, can be a huge help.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Sleep is a major consideration for pain prevention. The less sleep you get, the more likely you are to feel fatigued throughout the day, slouch in your seat, and succumb to pain. Get plenty of sleep each night and you'll be well-rested, able to sit with proper posture, and more likely to remain alert and free of pain.
Pain prevention is possible if you follow through with a few preparations. No matter if you're working from home or sitting at a school desk, do what you can to keep pain from setting in and disrupting your learning experience.
