Getting Your Pre-Summer Body Back
By Donna Stark
Have you found yourself looking in the mirror lately and wondering what in the world happened over the last eight weeks? You certainly didn't start the summer season like this, did you? In fact, things felt really good at the beginning when that new bathing suit fit you so well, but now that you're weeks deep in picnics, parties, and vacation food, it doesn't feel very good at all anymore, does it? Well, just so you know, it's never too late to get back on track with your overall health and wellness and it's easier than you think to climb out of your summer slump. Take a look at the following suggestions on how to get your bathing suit body back.
Start Over
Those steaks on the grill, potato salad, and cherry pie may have sidetracked you for a bit, but now their days are numbered! It's time to hit the reset button and fall back onto the healthy habits you started with. Or it's time to create a new plan altogether! Whatever the case, start your day tomorrow with a positive outlook and some changed behavior.
Eat Healthily
Just because those extra pounds found their way to you, it doesn't mean you need to deprive yourself of the things you love. Maintaining a healthy weight isn't about starving yourself. It's about being intentional with the foods you do eat. So go ahead and have a taste or two of your favorite dishes, but be sure to consume more vegetables and fruit too!
Don't Skip Breakfast
It may seem counterintuitive that in order to lose weight, you should actually eat more, but that's the gift of breakfast. Consuming a healthy breakfast at the beginning of the day can help you lose and then maintain a healthy weight. It keeps you feeling full and satisfied until your next meal and reduces the urge to mindlessly snack throughout the day.
Stay Physically Active
Yes, it's summer and boy, is it hot some days, but don't let that keep you from staying as physically active as you can. There are plenty of ways to stay cool while exercising. You can workout indoors, join a swim class, or take advantage of the early morning and evening temperatures to get your 30 minutes of exercise in. The key idea is to prioritize exercise and keep your body moving!
Getting Back to the Beginning
Fitting back into that bathing suit is an awesome goal to work towards but the better goal to shoot for is to improve your overall health and wellness. So step away from the mirror, give yourself some grace, and then get to it! There's still a lot of summer left.
