Good Health Needs Solid Footing
By Donna Stark
The temperatures are getting cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and the smell of hot chocolate is filling the air. So many changes are happening at this time of year that it makes sense to slow down, take stock of your health, and see if any changes need to be made in your daily lifestyle, too. After all, we are just about to enter the busiest time of the year, and if you aren't on solid footing now, you may not find yourself standing by year's end. So what kind of changes should you be looking at? That's a great question and you can find the answers below.
Self-Care
Time may have passed by slowly over the summer, but you know it will speed up as soon as the holiday season starts and when that happens, there won't be enough of it to go around. So, the best thing you can do is to start taking care of yourself now. Take those long, quiet walks. Spend some time engaging in your favorite hobbies. And be sure to get your exercise every day.
Exercise
Speaking of exercise, don't let the motivation you had while maintaining your summer body disappear with the hot temperatures. Just because the mornings are chillier and the skies are overcast doesn't mean you get to skip those daily workouts. You can either layer up or bring your workout indoors!
Hydration
Your body needs the recommended amount of water in the cooler months just as much as it did during the sweltering summer, so be sure to stay hydrated! Water helps the body maintain temperature, transport nutrients, and function at an optimal level. Carry a bottle of water with you throughout the day so you don't forget how important it is to your overall health and wellness.
Diet
You may be facing some extreme weather soon so be sure to prepare your body with the fuel it needs. A diet rich in nutrient-dense foods will boost your immunity, enhance bone and joint health, and reduce the risk of illness. So grab those wonderful fall vegetables at the grocery store and start cooking!
Hygiene
We may not have invited it, but you can count on the cold and flu season to show up this year, and this year could be a doozy. Use the time you have now to your advantage and start ramping up your family's hygiene skills. Make sure everyone understands how important it is to wash their hands and avoid touching their faces.
Solid Footing
Go ahead and enjoy all the changes of the season. But before you do, get on some solid footing first. It's the only way you can ensure the final part of the year is as healthy as it can be.
