Family-Friendly Activities for the Holidays
By Donna Stark
If there is one thing the holidays are good for, it's the time you get to enjoy with family. But sometimes, if you don't have any idea on what to do with your family, your stress levels may end up shooting through the roof, and that isn't good for anyone! So, to keep that from happening and to keep peace in the home, your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have listed some family-friendly activities to keep everyone busy and in a joyous mood. Take a look at them below.
Make Snowflakes
Who said you have to go outside to enjoy the snow? With just some paper and scissors, you can bring the beauty of winter indoors. Simply cut the paper (or tissue paper) into a square, fold it in half on the diagonal, then repeat that step two more times. Using your scissors, cut out a variety of shapes along the edges. Unfold to reveal your beautiful creation and hang in your windows or from the ceiling.
Feed the Wildlife
Head outdoors for a hike and have everyone pick out a few good-sized pine cones. Bring them home, tie a string to the top, slather with peanut butter, and roll them through birdseed. These pine cone bird feeders don't take much time to make at all but will bring hours of enjoyment to your backyard. After all, who doesn't love watching a little bit of wildlife from the comfort of your own home?
Express Gratitude
Acknowledging the things you are grateful for is a great way to bond with your loved ones. Pull out some construction paper and cut it into strips. Hand everyone a marker and ask them to write something they are thankful for on the paper. You can then create a chain with the strips and hang it on your mantel or cut out the inner circle of a paper plate and attach the strips to the outside ring for a very unique and meaningful wreath.
Send Holiday Cheer
Don't put that construction paper away yet! Keep it out but grab your cardstock, glitter, stickers, and markers too. Homemade holiday cards are so much fun to make and are a joy to send to others. You can also make a bunch to deliver to a local non-profit or nursing home. No matter who gets your works of art though, you can count on receiving a smile in return!
Holiday Family Time
Don't let the stress of the holidays intrude on your family time. By choosing inexpensive ways to spend time together and keeping your activities simple, you may end up enjoying this season more than some of the others in the past!
