3 Jumping Activities That Can Get You Super Fit
By Genevieve Cunningham
Jumping. When we're young, jumping around all day is no big deal. Almost all forms of play involves jumping of some sort for kids. As we get older, there's just not much need for jumping. And considering the intense nature of this activity, that might be a good thing! As it turns out, jumping is an incredible workout, and if you do it on purpose, it can help you get in great shape. If you're ready to get fit, have fun, and feel like a kid again, take a look at these three jumping workouts to do today.
Jumping Jacks
Jumping jacks are an old classic. This move involves jumping and spreading your arms and legs wide apart, and then jumping them all back together again. Chances are really good that you know what a jumping jack looks like, but if you don't, a quick internet search will help you find an example. When you do many jumping jacks one after the other, it works the muscles, builds endurance, and tires you out. They're an excellent exercise to do all alone to burn some quick calories, or to add to your current routine as an additional move.
Jumping Rope
You’ve probably done this exercise before, and you’ve probably forgotten how hard it is. Jumping rope is really taxing. It doesn't take long before you’re sucking air and suffering from burning muscles. But if you stick with it, jumping rope can get you in phenomenal shape. All you need is an inexpensive rope and a little space, and you may be able to get in the best shape of your life.
Trampoline Work
This is the only exercise on the list that requires significant equipment, but luckily, you have options. If you have a full size trampoline in your backyard, use that. If not, you may be able to find a local trampoline park. And if that's not available, you can buy a small personal trampoline for under $40. Once you find a trampoline, ditch the shoes, hop on, and jump to your heart's content. You'll have a ton of fun, wear yourself out, and boost overall health. This is a great option for getting your kids involved as well, as a trampoline makes for an entire afternoon of jumping fun.
If you haven't done any jumping in a while, maybe it's time to give it a try. Just make sure that you're easy on yourself, and that you protect your body from potential injury. If you give one or all of these a try, you may find a fun new workout to keep you fit for life.
