By Janin Hendry

Coffee is a bitter beverage that is often made sweet by sugar and cream. It is a standard part of most adults' day. It gets you out of bed in the morning and keeps you awake at work, but how good for you is it?

What Is Coffee?

Coffee is beans roasted from different strains of coffee beans. The beans go through a drying process and are roasted to varying degrees to bring out the bean's natural flavor. Creamer and sugar make the bitter taste sweet and enjoyable to consume hot or cold.

Coffee, except for decaf coffee, contains caffeine. Caffeine can provide your brain the morning jolt it needs to get going by blocking neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine, which can make you feel tired. Coffee can do many good things for your brain and body if consumed pure without, or with limited, cream and sugar.

  • Burn fat - Coffee and its main component, caffeine, acts on your central nervous system to increase your metabolism, helping you to burn calories more quickly.
  • Improve physical movement - The inclusion of coffee before a workout can increase your body's ability to burn fat while you work out.
  • Reduce type 2 diabetes risk - Type 2 diabetes occurs when your body becomes resistant to insulin or cannot produce it. Consuming coffee regularly can help you reduce your risk for developing type 2 diabetes by encouraging your body to metabolize fat and keep you active and operating correctly.

How Much Coffee Is Too Much Coffee?

The daily cup of coffee is a requirement for many working adults, but when that one cup becomes multiple, it can cause problems. A healthy adult does not need large amounts of coffee, and too much can lead to consuming too much caffeine.

There are plenty of websites that say how much you should be drinking, but you should consume the amount to match your body weight and activity level. The average adult should drink no more than four cups of regular coffee throughout the day.

Drinking too much coffee can cause you to drink more to get the same level of results. Getting a good night's sleep, exercising regularly, and eating a balanced diet can help you balance your body and control the amount of coffee you consume.
