Winter Hydration Is Important
By Donna Stark
There are plenty of things that can happen during the winter season you may not be prepared for or expect. Some of these things are good, others can be bad, but the one thing you really don't want to occur is winter dehydration. Dehydration? In the winter? That's right. Dehydration can occur anytime of the year and it most certainly doesn't require the super-hot temperatures of summer. Take a look at the following tips on how you can stay on top of your water consumption when drinking water is the last thing on your mind.
Figure Out Your Number
The number of ounces you need to drink each day is dependent on several different reasons, so be sure to figure out your number. The best way to do so is to factor in your weight, age, level of fitness, and amount of daily physical activity. If you are struggling to come up with the number of ounces your body needs, ask your physician for help.
Track Your Consumption
A great way to know how much water you have already consumed and how much water you still need to drink in order to reach that magic number of yours is to keep track of it! Jot down how many ounces are in each glass you drink or download an app. Some apps even have a reminder to keep you on your toes.
Warm It Up
For some people, drinking an ice-cold glass of water is the last thing they want to do when the temperatures outside are dropping and their body is chilled to the bone. If this sounds like you, try warming it up or just let it sit on the counter until it comes to room temperature. If you warm it up, add a slice of lemon for additional health benefits.
Increase Your Intake With Food
There's no better time to grab a bowl of soup and a cup of hot tea than now. Both will warm you up immensely, but that's not all they will do! They will also increase your intake of water! And if you make a batch of yummy soup with vegetables that have a high water content, you will be able to increase that intake even more!
Winter Hydration Is Important
It is easy to overlook your water consumption when it's cold outside, but with the simple suggestions above, staying on top of your hydration is easy to do! It's time to say goodbye to winter dehydration and hello to healthier days ahead!
