How to Balance Work and Health
By Genevieve Cunningham
We live in a work, work, work society. We're obsessed with the almighty dollar. We want more. More money, more clothing, more cars, more of everything! And to get all of those things, we have to work. But this obsession with work is seriously causing a problem for people. In what way? With their health! If you're interested in slowing down and finally valuing health over work, take a look at these tips to help you out.
Go Home On Time
Most people tend to place the importance of work above almost anything else. And what does this mean? It often means that we spend massive amounts of time at the office. In fact, when it's closing time, you'll still find plenty of people burning the midnight oil. If this is you, it's time to stop. Work is important, it's true. And there are instances where working late is necessary. But overall, you should be spending your time at home, with family, and with friends. When it's time to go home go! All of that work will still be there tomorrow.
Take Your Lunch
Because we're often in a rush on our way to work, many of us simply plan on eating out at lunch. But this can cost you big in both calories and cash. If you want to be healthier, you need to take your lunch. Pack healthy foods -- fruit, vegetables, healthy snacks. At first, it will seem like a hassle. But once you're used to it, you'll feel better about your time, your energy, and your health.
Remove Distractions and Stress
It's all too easy to try to do everything at the same time. You have two big projects due? Let's work on both! You need to finish your paperwork and also start a new file? Pile it on! But this causes excessive stress and a feeling of burnout. If you want better health both at work and at home, stop multitasking. Do one task at a time, and completely stop the first before moving on to the next. The lower your stress, the better you're going to feel about work and your health, too.
It's OK to love your job. It's OK to place value on your work. But it's not OK to let your job steal your health and your life! Use these tips to find a little balance, and you'll likely feel better about everything in your life -- work, health, and personal well-being -- in no time at all.
