Aging Gracefully Is Possible. Really!
By Tom Herrin
As the population in general is getting older, there seems to be more attention to aging. There was a time when the average life expectancy was much less due to stressful lives, less developed healthcare, and several other factors. People today have a very different outlook. While aging is destined to occur, many people can actually have more influence than ever before on their own aging rate. Knowledge is available regarding ways to enjoy life more as people age.
Without Intervention, Aging Becomes More Obvious
As people grow older, even while relatively young adults, several things may tend to happen to the body. Blood pressure and blood sugar both rise. Cholesterol may worsen. The heart ceases to supply as much blood as it once did. Skin becomes more wrinkled and sleep may be harder to obtain. All of these things combined can make people look or feel older. If left alone, these symptoms add up fast to what many feel is the inevitable consequence of getting older.
The Body Can Be Amazingly Resilient
Studies have shown that people who have lived sedentary lives for years can still turn many of the effects of aging around. After they have begun a more aggressive activity program, and continued it for more than a few weeks, people can see many of these signs of aging reversed. A program that taxes them some can improve heart function as well as lower blood pressure and blood sugar. Combining this with a more carefully planned diet can lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. Planning and consistency are both keys to success.
Today Is The First Day
Once you have made a decision to do something about your health, there is no reason to delay. Starting today will make a difference. Even though you may have to start slow, it will be a great feeling to get out and do something. Walking is almost always a great way to start. Making good choices in eating are not difficult if you are willing to try. These two things may also improve your sleep patterns. More sleep and more water will likely improve your skin. You will feel better and look better with the effort. You can slow down your aging and manage some of it more to your own liking. You may very well be able to age gracefully.
