Skipping or Skimping: Planning is Better for Health
By Tom Herrin
A lot of times, people actually don't make choices about some things. One of those things is eating breakfast. Many do quite the opposite of making a choice, they simply go with the flow. In other words, whatever they can find within easy reach is what they eat. This is likely a learned behavior. It is what was done when they were younger, and they never gave enough thought to it to enact change. For many, the awakening happens when they suddenly discover that they have some kind of health issue that could very well have been avoided with better planning. Breakfast is a great place to start when trying to build something that can lead to better overall health.
It May Be Good for the Heart and Circulatory System
Many of the key nutrients for supporting the cardiovascular system may be had in a good breakfast. Omega-3s and healthy fats have been found to be good for this system. Potassium and magnesium are believed to help prevent cardiac arrest and stroke. Many breakfast foods are enriched with these. Another thing that is a great help is fiber. Some fiber can help with digestion. Soluble fiber can help to lower bad cholesterol.
It May Help with Weight Management
For many people, managing their weight is a constant battle. They struggle between routine, exercise, and diet. The biggest factor is usually diet. When people skip breakfast, they may not be able to kick their metabolism into gear. Their body may struggle with the change between starvation and overeating, and many tend to overeat as a result of excessive hunger due to going a long period without eating. A sufficient supply of vitamins at breakfast can also maintain the body's balance.
It May Provide Better Hair
If you think most people don't care about their hair, take another look at the hair care aisle at the supermarket. They sell everything imaginable. This is obviously because there is a pretty good market for these products. Eating the right kind of breakfast may help save on some of that. Nutrition is important to the condition of the hair just as it is the rest of the body. Protein is especially critical to good hair. If you have any of that concern, along with health in general, try to plan a breakfast that is right for you.
