Standing for Exercise May Not Be an Option

By Tom Herrin

There are times when the things people are most familiar with doing simply don't pan out.  For those who want to make positive changes in their lifestyle by turning on the exercise machine, they often hit a brick wall when they get off of work.  Those well laid plans can suddenly go bad through no real fault of their own.  While some people get a minimal amount of exercise while they work, those who work in offices, or some other setting in which they are somewhat confined to a chair all day, are stuck sitting. Finding a way to do something in that situation can be a challenge.  It is possible to do some constructive things for the body.

It May Strengthen the Hands

An exercise that may be done is to make a tight fist and hold.  It doesn't make so much difference whether you hold something or not.  Holding for a few seconds and then releasing and spreading the fingers wide can be considered as one repetition.  Repeating this activity several times with each hand can provide a workout while strengthening the hands.  This is an easy one that can get some fast results.

It May Be Possible to Work the Core

A lot of people seem to be somewhat obsessed with trying to do something to work their core.  Since this is really the base for many other things they do, strengthening it may head off some other problems.  An exercise here is to sit up straight and grab the desk with both hands.  Turning from side to side, using only the core to do so, can give those muscles a little bit of a workout.  It is suggested that repeating this 15 times or so can accomplish enough to make progress.  A great thing is that it can make for a good break while working muscles in need.

It May Take the Monotony Out of Work

Since so many just can't seem to make the time to work out after work, these sitting exercises are almost perfect.  Not only do they work some key parts of the body, but they also wake people up from what can often become a pretty dull routine.  You can focus on some things that you personally want to improve, so it can be a win all the way around for you as it is for me.  I like to find any creative way I can to add a little workout into whatever routine I have.
