Good Traditions May Come From Tough Times
By Tom Herrin
Not all things people do are as a result of careful planning. Some of them come from circumstances that may test their limits. In recent times, not only this country but the entire world has been tested to extreme limits. People have been pushed into doing things that they had never dreamed would have happened. For sure, the notion of being restricted from going places freely has not likely crossed the minds of most Americans. That fact is there is a delicate balance between freedom and safety. With the threat of global pandemic, drastic measures have been taken, and many people have lived under conditions that would have otherwise been unthinkable. With all of this in mind, people may still be able to make the most out of the situation.
Open the Game Closet
For lots of people, holidays meant it was game time when they were children. Maybe it was because they were often given as gifts. There were also plenty of puzzles worked. Either of these can still offer some good perks. As people may be spending more time together, whether indoors or out, directing their efforts into something more productive may provide a wonderful opportunity to interact. Too many times, people may live in the same house but fail to communicate freely. When they play games or work puzzles, they will have more opportunity to do so. This casual and unrestricted conversation may open doors that have long been shut.
Remember to Exercise
Anyone who has their free movement restricted needs to have some kind of physical outlet. Organizing a group exercise session can be helpful. Each of the participants may have a useful contribution to the program. There are all kinds of things that may be done to get more exercise including riding a bicycle where it is permitted. Exercise has proven particularly beneficial for those who are limited as to their ability to move around freely.
It May Be More Fun Than You Think
Once you have established a pattern of spending time together, it may be a little more comfortable. In our family, we really enjoy spending time around the kitchen table. After eating a meal together, we generally spend some time simply talking and listening. You may be surprised how open your communication becomes after doing so. A good thing is that even after things have opened back up, it is something we can all continue to do to strengthen our families.
