You Can Have Fun and Still Support Health

By Tom Herrin

Many of us probably have the idea that the only way to make ourselves healthier is to do some hard work and deal with it.  A lot of individuals enjoy having a set routine of exercise because they know what to expect.  Others find it to be a bit of a struggle trying to stay motivated as they go through a routine of exercise that seems to bore them to tears.  If this is the case, it doesn't take long to lose interest and fall back into some sedentary habits.  This doesn't have to be the case as you may be able to get in pretty good shape by participating in some kind of activity that is more recreational than work.

Try Hiking

As a child, you may have done some hiking, but that may have been the last time you did unless you were into camping.  Hiking doesn't have to be a remote activity that takes you miles from civilization.  It may be done in a local park or natural area.  It can be a good way to see some scenery while getting out into the fresh air.  You simply need to be sure you can take enough water with you.  Another thing is to be sure to have good shoes and don't try to overdo it.  You may find that you can get hooked on hiking.

Are You a Swimmer?

Many people swim occasionally for recreation.  If you enjoy it, you may want to spend a little more time doing so.  You can almost always find some place to swim.  There are lots of rec centers that have pools.  You may do it as a part of a class, or you may simply want to try doing laps.  A good thing about swimming is that many people are able to swim daily well into their older years.  It could be something you can enjoy with others as well.

If You Are Daring, You May Enjoy Kayaking

Some people are a little more into adventure.  If that is the case with you, there are all kinds of things you can do.  Kayaking is something that requires some skill and works a lot of muscles in the body.  You will need to learn to balance it and roll it.  You will also be using a variety of muscles as you paddle and control the kayak.  You may find that you will be taking every opportunity to look for places to put it into the water.
