3 Ways Stress is Ruining Your Life

By Genevieve Cunningham

Dealing with stress is such a pain. We all have to deal with it. We can't get away from it completely. It can be frustrating, that's for sure. But for the most part, stress is relatively harmless … that is, until it grows big enough to overwhelm you. Big enough to cause serious health issues. If you're dealing with excessive stress in your life, take a look at these ways that stress may be ruining your life, followed by some tips for getting it under control.

Headaches

Headaches are a common problem among adults. Sometimes they're severe and sometimes they're not. But if the headache is caused by stress, you can almost guarantee that it will be ongoing. These headaches are tough to get rid of, which makes them a serious problem in regular life. If you've noticed an increase in headaches, it might be time to check your stress.

Insomnia

A lack of sleep can be a serious problem in your life. It causes a serious rundown feeling, an inability to concentrate, and even aches and pains. When you’re suffering from too much stress, insomnia can rear its ugly head. And without getting this symptom under control, every aspect of your life may suffer.

More Illness

A weakened body gets ill more easily. Stress causes the immune system to suffer, and without a strong immune system, germs attack and overtake the body. While not all illness is linked to stress, a sudden increase in colds or random illness may be an indicator that your stress is out of control. Take a quick self-check of your stress levels to determine whether you need a doctor visit or a stress management plan.

How to Lower Stress

So how do you get rid of stress? You may not be able to completely eliminate stress from your life, but you may be able to lower it. Start by saying no to extra activities, and claim a little time back for yourself. You can also exercise regularly, improve your diet, get a massage, take a hot shower, and perform the same wind down routine every night.

Stress happens, and that’s OK. But if you let it get out of control, it can cause these frustrating side effects. Watch out for these issues, and if they’re present, use these tips to get your stress under control and watch your health improve.
