Protect Your Skin and It Should Protect You

By Tom Herrin

Everything about us has a purpose.  Whether it's organs or some other body part, it has a designed job and can do it better when we take care of it.  Our skin is no different.  Its main job is to protect us from infection.  This is easy to see anytime we cut ourselves and end up with a place that is sore, red, and swollen.  This is an indicator that we have infection, and it is as a result of a cut in the skin.  Of course, we all know the skin gives us our appearance as well.  Taking proper care of it can help us to look our best and remain healthier.  It is possible by taking a few simple practices.

Make a Habit of Using Sunscreen

At one time, no one had any idea what sunscreen even was.  They simply burned at times when they got too much sun.  Those who worked out in the sun on a regular basis learned the benefits of wearing long sleeved shirts and hats with wide brims for protection.  In today's world, using sunscreen can save our skin.  It can protect it from becoming overly dry and wrinkled.  It can also help prevent skin cancers, some of which may be life-threatening.  It is suggested that we use a sunscreen that is mineral-based with SPF of at least 30.

Use Moisturizing Products

There are a lot of skin care products on the market today.  Anything that really adds, or helps retain, moisture effectively may be well worth using.  I have had problems with my skin when the weather is dry or cold.  I finally began using a simple lotion and was really pleased with the results.  I found that, if I used it several times per day, it helped me to avoid the dry and cracked skin I had experienced.  Using them on a regular basis is known to be an effective way of preserving our skin.  Many use them quite successfully on their faces.

Drink Water Like It Means Something

It is essential to our health to drink as much water as possible.  It helps to cool us when it is hot and warm us when it is cold.  It also helps to keep our skin looking good.  It helps to retain elasticity and prevent wrinkles.  If we want to prevent early aging and have healthy looking skin, drinking lots of water.
