Are You in the Market for Change in Beverages?

By Tom Herrin

For those of us who are interested in finding better alternatives to our list of drinks, there are actually some really good ones out there.  While water is always a great choice, even the most dedicated among us can get a little burned out at times.  We may know we should stay away from many of the carbonated beverages on the market, but we may desire something with a little more flavor than plain water.  The fact is, there is a whole wide world outside of our circle that may be untouched by our taste buds.  It can be fun to try more of them, and they may pack some pretty good things.

Pomegranate Anyone?

You may have had pomegranate before, or you may have been turned off by the appearance.  Some people find it a little strange.  The good side is that several studies have shown this fruit to be a pretty good package.  One study found that it may improve memory.  Another found that it may help reduce bone loss.  It is believed to be good for the skin.  It is also thought that pomegranate may help to lower cholesterol and help maintain good blood pressure.  If you haven't tasted it, you may be in for a pleasant surprise as well.  It is pretty good.

Don't Discount Lemon Water

For much of your life, you have probably ordered water at a restaurant and had it delivered with a slice of lemon stuck on the side.  You may have used this lemon, or you may have set it aside.  Lemon water is actually a pretty basic and healthy drink.  It is known for its ability to satisfy thirst.  It is also known as a natural diuretic.  You may not have given thought to the fact that it has a good bit of Vitamin C.  Even if you drink it as lemonade with its sugar content, it is one of the healthier drinks around.

Keep It Simple

You don't have to go to a lot of trouble making drinks from juices.  There are all kinds of flavors that may be added to water to make some really healthy and good-tasting drinks.  Many restaurants offer a large variety of flavors that may be added to water.  While all of them may not be fruits, even others such as chocolate or vanilla have few calories and can enhance anything.  I have added them to water, along with some kind of fruit flavor, and been pleased with the product.
