Enjoy the Warm Weather but Be Prudent
By Tom Herrin
There are lots of people in and out of Corpus Christi as the warmer months come around. Anyplace located by the gulf is pretty popular and Corpus has its share of conferences and conventions. It is a good getaway for those looking for a pleasurable business trip or some other type of occasion. It gives people a chance to enjoy the sun and maybe spend some time out on Mustang Island. Whatever they do, using precautions while out in the sun is a must. It can protect more than just the skin. The eyes and other parts of the body can also be at risk.
Sunshades Are Important
Modern sunshades can provide plenty of protection from those UV rays. While people do get some vitamins through their eyes from the sun, too much sun can cause a lot of problems. For many people, glare can be quite an issue. Many sunshades today can act as safety glasses while providing UV protection as well. They can do so at a very affordable price, often $10 or less. It is a pretty good deal for the protection they offer.
Sunscreen Is a Must
Some years ago, the plan in the sun was to burn, peel and do it again. It seemed like the body would finally get used to some of it. Today’s sunscreen products are actually pretty good. They can be purchased with different amounts of protection. Children, or people with very sensitive skin, may need maximum protection while there are lesser levels of protection available for those who who do not have such needs. Applying it throughout the middle parts of the day can truly be a lifesaver for some.
Seek Shade
In Corpus, shade is sometimes a little hard to come by. It is wise to find it wherever and whenever possible. When we work out in the sun, we may be able to work so that we can move with the shade. In other words, if you are painting the house, paint on the west side in the morning, take a break at high noon, then paint on the east side in the afternoon. This allows us to use the sun’s movement to help provide some protection. If we are just hanging out, we may be just as well to hang out at that two story Whataburger and view the gulf from there. If we want to see the Selena statue, we can do that after the sun sets.
