Preventing Injuries May Support Better Results
By Tom Herrin
Anyone who has ever pulled on a pair of gym shorts likely knows that any kind of physical activity can be wonderful if it all goes according to plans. Some kind of setback can reverse any progress that has been made and send success into a tailspin. Even the smallest of injuries can cause people to lose time and cause them to have to restart their program. It is fortunate that a little increased awareness may make a lot of difference and offer the protection that is needed. People simply have to be diligent and in tune in order to make steady progress.
Make Warming up a Part of Routine
The notion that people need to warm up before working out is not new. Research has shown that it is a critical part of any kind of physical activity. Whether it is stretching or some other kind of light exercise, it should actually be a part of the program and not just something to do prior to beginning the session. This allows the blood vessels to be activated to carry blood to various parts of the body so that they can be supplied with nutrients and oxygen. Waste products are carried away from those parts as well. Following the core part of the session, a cooling off routine should be followed. This can allow the heart to return to its normal rate slowly.
Wear the Right Clothes
People dress for success for many reasons. Sometimes it is to seem fit for the occasion, other times it is to be able to perform the physical demands. It is very important to wear clothes that allow good movement. It is often those that are loose-fitting and allow proper air flow. Shoes that have the right amount of cushion can help also. A poor decision about clothes can cause a person to overheat in the warm weather or lose too much body heat in the cold. If they can't move well and regulate temperature, they are asking for trouble.
Careful Trial and Effort May Help
We all learn in different ways. As for how to prepare ourselves, there are times in which we can adequately prepare ourselves, and there are times in which the old style of learning by our mistakes still rings true. I have had the opportunity to do both. The main thing is to learn one way or another, and apply that learning to new situations. I have failed to warm up properly, and I have failed to anticipate the correct dress. At least, I was able to learn from those instances.
