Health May Be in the Balance with a Vaccine

By Tom Herrin

The virus of 2020 has just about whipped everybody.  That is anywhere in the world.  Almost every country has suffered great losses, both physically and financially.  Researchers have worked around the clock to try to develop treatments and/or vaccines.  As more of these have begun to look promising, we have all gained a little more confidence.  The fact remains, however, that it is a serious disease that has taken hundreds of thousands of lives in this country.  As these first line of individuals have received their vaccinations, the eyes of the world have been watching.  Most of us will fall into the group who will be offered an opportunity to take the vaccine after those directly in the line of fire.  Making our decision ahead of time will serve us best.

Is It Right for Me?

When we look at what vaccines have done for humanity as a whole, they have saved many lives.  Even with some of the issues that have occurred with vaccines their value is tremendous.  Even the most primitive vaccines have provided great protection from serious illnesses.  Smallpox was once a disease that killed large numbers of people.  Today it is nowhere around.  Until the middle of the twentieth century, polio was a common crippling disease affecting thousands.  The development of a vaccine offered great protection.  Other common vaccinations, such as MMR and DPT, are routinely given with little or no problems.

Is It a Risk for Me?

With all of the technology available in developing vaccines, there have still been some problems.  Many people have suffered side effects or reactions.  Some of the common ones are fever, pain, muscle weakness, and fatigue.  Some of the more serious reactions include seizures, loss of hearing or sight, memory loss, and severe illness.  Some individuals have problems due to problems with their own immune systems.  Some people simply fear taking in a foreign substance.

Who Will Make the Decision?

Unless it is required for some reason, we will likely be able to make our own choices.  It is best if we consider all of the available facts now so that our decisions are based on as much information as possible.  It is not something to be taken lightly, so the more info we gather, the better.  The time for that decision will be here soon.  Let us be prepared.
