Dr. Upadhyaya has lived in Texas his entire life, having grown up and completed his schooling in the greater Dallas metroplex. He was born in Dallas and raised in the city of Garland where he completed his primary education through high school. Thereafter studying at Baylor University, he completed his post graduate work at Parker University where Dr. Upadhyaya received his Doctorate of Chiropractic.
Having always enjoyed watching and participating in sports, Dr. Upadhyaya grew a desire to work in the field of biomechanics. In fact, because of sports he was originally introduced to the practice of chiropractic. Late his senior year of high school he began experiencing tightness in his shoulder, one that was limiting his enjoyment of sports to such a degree that he was forced to give up participating in any sports in which throwing a ball was involved. Periodically in subsequent years, he would attempt to participate in these sports, however, time and time again the tightness would creep back in and had begun to now limit some of his activities of daily living.
Thankfully, Dr. Upadhyaya’s wife insisted that he talk to his orthopedic doctor about less invasive options like surgery, and see if there were avenues available that his shoulder could undergo care, free of painkillers or steroidal medication. HIs doctor discussed the care that he had successfully utilized both professionally through referrals and personally; the care he found through chiropractic.
After diligent adherence to a treatment plan that included rehabilitative physical therapy and regular chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Upadhyaya saw marked, observable improvement and strength returning to his shoulder. Today he enjoys an active lifestyle participating in sports including racquetball, mountain biking, and basketball, to name a few. Today, admittedly, he states that the greatest immeasurable aspect of the results of chiropractic care is the time he gets to play with his dog and young son, niece, and nephew without having to worry about limitations due to chronic pain.
Furthermore, this experience with chiropractic care was such a positive one that he chose to pursue a career in the field. It was within this extensive study of biomechanics, interdependent relationships within the human body, and the nature of the relationship between structure and function that Dr. Upadhyaya’s passion for caring for patients was further enhanced.
Dr. Upadhyaya channeled this passion and has been educating and treating patients, originally through private practice and alongside family practice physicians, to now currently working at The Joint. He is ever grateful for the experience that his 6+ years of practice have taught him, citing that the relationships that he gets to build with patients and seeing them experience their own success in healing as lasting impacts on his own life.
At the Joint, Dr. Upadhyaya specializes in diversified technique of adjustments, and also is knowledgeable in utilization of the activator. Furthermore, Dr. Upadhyaya’s extensive background and passion for optimal biomechanical structure and function is the reason why his care for patients extends beyond the clinic walls as he assigns at-home exercises, stretches, and therapeutic measures. Additionally at The Joint he appreciates being in an environment which fosters healing in a manner that places emphasis on the power of the adjustment and the vital role it plays in clearing the body, specifically the nervous system of interference. Today, Dr. Shashi Upadhyaya is not only an ambassador for holistic care, but is also a recipient of the benefits that are evident within chiropractic care.
