Undeniable Nutrition Facts
By Sara Butler
Nutrition advice seems to come and go. It seems to be constantly changing because, well, it is. But good nutrition doesn’t have to be confusing. In fact, there are some undeniable nutrition facts you should time the time to memorize because they’ll never go out of style.
You Can Get Too Much
It is possible to get too much of a good thing. That’s right, you can overindulge in even healthy foods. If you’re having trouble achieving or maintaining a healthy weight, keep a food diary. You may see that even if you’re making wholesome choices, you’re having far too much. Any food consumed in large quantities can lead to issues. That’s why it’s so important to learn about portion control and check the nutrition facts label on the foods you buy.
Shoot for Progress
Remember, making healthy choices isn’t about perfection, but progress. If a year ago you were eating five Big Macs per week and now you’re down to just two, that’s progress!
It’s inevitable to stray from your health and wellness goals every once in a while, especially when it comes to food. The important thing is to realize that eating is a lifelong journey, so you must look at the bigger picture. If you get off track, identify it and then take steps to correct your course.
It’s Work
Making healthy food choices don’t just happen, they take work. Nutrition must be a priority in your life and that takes dedication. If you want to be healthy and lean, then it’ll take intentional work on your part -- no matter how great your genes are.
Carbohydrates are Healthy
Carbohydrates have a bad reputation, but they shouldn’t. While it is true that there are some types of carbohydrates that aren’t the best for you, your body needs carbs to perform at its very best. Low-carb diets may work for some people, but it’s not a long-term solution.
The best thing to do is to search out the right carbohydrates. The carbohydrates that occur naturally in unprocessed fruits and vegetables are good for you, as well as the carbs in unprocessed whole grains. If you can seek out these types of carbs, then you’ll feel fuller for longer and your body will have what it needs to perform at its very best.
New information about nutrition will always emerge, but if you keep these tried and true tips in mind, you can't go wrong.
