Get Creative With Peanut Butter
By Rachel Carver
If you love peanut butter, you don't have to give it up to stay healthy. This dietary staple contains Vitamin E, niacin, folate, and magnesium. You can find it almost anywhere.
Read on for some different ways to incorporate peanut butter into your diet.
In Stir-Fry Sauce
Stir-fries are great healthy meals. They pump lots of protein and vegetables onto the dinner plate. Mix the perfect sauce for a fantastic meal. Cue the peanut butter. Grab your favorite peanut butter, low-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, lime juice, garlic, and chili peppers. Whisk everything together for a delicious sauce. Add water as desired if you want a thinner sauce. Dip your favorite veggies into the extra sauce for a healthy snack.
Add Peanut Butter to Oatmeal
Oats can lower cholesterol and help with weight management. However, oatmeal without healthy fat and protein will not keep you full very long. Add some peanut butter to your oatmeal for a satisfying breakfast. This boosts nutrient content and prevents the need for extra sugar. Many overnight oat recipes also call for fruits such as bananas that go great with peanut butter. Plus, preparing overnight oats in advance makes grabbing breakfast easy as you dash out the door in the morning.
Make Some Energy Bites
Mix peanut butter with flaxseeds, old-fashioned oats, honey, chocolate chips and coconut. These energy bites can give you a sweet snack that won't derail your calorie intake for the day. Make a large batch so you have snacks during the week when you feel hungry.
Combine Peanut Butter With Frozen Banana and Dark Chocolate
There's just something tasty about mixing chocolate and peanut butter. Small amounts of dark chocolate can satisfy your sweet tooth. And bananas are great for after a workout.
Freeze a sliced banana in advance. Then, melt some dark chocolate and peanut butter together. Add a pinch of butter, dip the frozen slices of banana into the mixture, and freeze again.
Stir Peanut Butter Into Greek Yogurt
If your Greek yogurt lacks fat, peanut butter can give it a healthy fat boost. Mix in some cacao nibs for a tasty chocolate and peanut butter combo. Enjoy this flavorful Greek yogurt for breakfast or for a mid-afternoon snack. Protein with a few carbs can get you through your late meetings.
Whether you enjoy oatmeal or a stir-fry, peanut butter can play a part in many of your meals and snacks. Find some new recipes to try to keep things interesting.
