How Blue Collar Workers Can Avoid Back Pain

By Brandi Swieter

Men and women with a blue collar job have hard work ahead of them each day. They are often responsible for some of the most strenuous tasks at the job site, all of which can easily lead to back pain. Blue collar workers need to do what they can to avoid back pain if they want to accomplish their work duties without having to experience serious discomfort.

Stretch Before, During, and After a Shift

When a tough shift is expected and a lot of hard work will have to be done, workers need to be sure to stretch out their bodies so they can handle the tasks. Stretching before work will ensure flexibility for the first part of the shift. The muscles and joints will be stretched and relaxed so they’re able to work without injury. Stretching during the shift will help the body recover from some of the impact it’s already taken and help it to continue working as well as possible. Workers should end their shifts by stretching as well, allowing the body the chance to recover after a hard day’s work.

Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

It’s important for workers with strenuous jobs to stay hydrated throughout the day. Just a few sips of water here and there will not suffice. People should carry a water bottle with them at all times if possible to be able to get drinks when they need. Sports drinks and other beverage choices have too much sugar, so these should be avoided at all costs. Water is the only drink that should be had when working.

Wear the Right Shoes

A sturdy yet comfortable pair of shoes will help the body tremendously while at work. The right pair of shoes is extremely important for decreasing foot, leg, and back pain. Wearing an uncomfortable set can allow pain to set in easier, making it difficult to get through the tasks for the day.

Daily pain can be a major problem for blue collar workers who have a lot of strenuous tasks to handle. The more a worker tackles, the more pain can develop. Finding ways to avoid this pain and remain in optimal health is key for employees with strenuous work.
