Following Chiropractic Advice for Cleaning the Gutter
By Brandi Swieter
Cleaning the gutters is a necessary task for fall. Homeowners want to be sure all debris and falling leaves are out of the way so the gutters can continue to do their job throughout the upcoming rainy and snowy seasons. Following some chiropractic advice when cleaning the gutters is the best way to ensure the job gets done safely.
Stretch Before Climbing
Climbing the ladder is the first step toward getting the gutters cleaned. No one should make the attempt until they have done a pre-step first, stretching out their arms and legs to ensure their bodies are adequately prepared to make the climb safely. Climbing a ladder requires a flexible and steady body. Stretching will help.
Wear Non-Slip Shoes
A ladder can be slippery. This is especially true if it begins raining when the work of cleaning the gutters is being completed. Non-slip shoes will help tremendously, ensuring the person climbing remains sturdy on their feet. Never wear sandals when tackling this chore.
Work With a Friend
Handling the task alone isn’t the safest choice. Homeowners should ask a friend to at least come over and watch them as they get the job done. That way, there’s someone around to help hold the ladder steady if need be or be there to lend a hand if a break is needed.
Too many people attempt to remain in one place and simply reach over as far as possible to clear a large area. This may seem faster, but reaching in this way can quickly lead to a fall. It can also be the reason you pull a muscle and suffer an injury. The best option is to head back to the ground to move the ladder before attempting to clean another area.
Take Frequent Breaks
Climbing up and down the ladder while attempting to pick and clear stuck debris from all crevices can be taxing. Each time you come back down be sure to take a short break. Stretch the legs and arms and get a drink of water. It will help the body recover faster afterward.
A visit to The Joint Chiropractic may be necessary after the gutters are cleaned. The work can put strain on the body if people aren’t extra cautious while handling the task. A doctor of chiropractic may be able to offer an assessment to see what joint restrictions, if any, are currently in place and need to be removed.
