5 Ways to Relieve Pain in Your Hands and Fingers
By Stephen R. Farris
Unless you're into full virtual, voice-activated mode in your life, where you can literally sit back and accomplish your day's work just by simply talking, then it should be safe to say that the majority of earth's population use their hands for accomplishing tasks.
Over a period of time, we may fall into a repetitive motion phase, where we are constantly doing the same movements day in, day out. And again, over a period of time, we may begin to develop pain or stiffness in our hands, due to repetitive motion or overuse.
That pain can lead to arthritis, and we could start to see limited mobility in our fingers, thus making it difficult to do our jobs.
In most instances, we can get relief from the pain with over-the-counter products in the form of medicated lotions or gels, as well as Advil or Tylenol products. However, the later two could lead to dependency of those products if taken or a regular basis.
While the pain may come and go, or linger for months and even years, there are a few things you can do naturally to help you get relief.
One of the most effective ways to get pain relief in your hands and fingers, is to start out each day by doing simple range-of-motion stretches.
Here's five to help you get started.
- Wrist extension and flexion
- Wrist supination/pronation
- Wrist ulnar/radial deviation
- Thumb flexion/extension
- Hand/finger tendon glide
These simple exercises should get you started and help to loosen up the muscles and tendons in your hands and fingers. You should be able to find YouTube videos that will guide you with the proper technique for each exercise.
