Tips for Keeping Your Spine Healthy
By Randi Morse
They say that the best defense is a good offense and this is actually true when it comes to your health. Far too often people avoid caring for themselves until they are feeling unwell. That is when they head to their local doctor, or their chiropractor, seeking help. While it is perfectly reasonable to seek your chiropractor's help when you are dealing with back pain, there are some things that you can do to keep your back as healthy as possible, hopefully helping you to avoid getting back pain.
Weight
One of the best things that you can do to keep your spine healthy is to maintain a healthy weight. This can be very difficult for some people, especially as we grow older and tend to have little time to eat healthy or exercise. The problem is that excessive weight puts stress and strain on the spine. The spine has a natural curve and when you have too much weight in certain areas of the body, the spine is unable to handle the strain and this can cause pain or spinal weakness. Maintaining a healthy weight is definitely key when it comes to having a healthy spine.
Posture
I remember when I was learning to type in high school our teacher made sure that we all sat with our feet flat on the floor, our backs straight and our eyes looking forward, not down at the keyboard. She even had little "blinders" she'd make us wear so that we couldn't look down. At the time we all thought she was going too far, but it turns out that she was right to teach us to sit this way. Proper posture, no matter whether you're standing or sitting, is very important to ensuring that your spine, and the muscles and tendons attached to it, stay healthy.
Chiropractor
Another way to keep your back in tip-top shape is to seek out regular chiropractic care. A chiropractor from The Joint Chiropractic will be happy to help repair any joint restrictions that you may have while also working with you to help eliminate any pain or stiffness you're dealing with. They can also help to inform you about all the ways you can make little changes to keep your back healthy. The Joint Chiropractic has affordable rates and extended office hours.
