Chiropractic Tip: Tackle New Projects Safely
By Sandy Schroeder
Are you bouncing between spring projects and summer plans? As the weather improves, and there is much to do, it’s easy to move too fast or tackle too much. Consider what you want to do, and take precautions to protect your back, neck and other muscles and joints.
How Your Chiropractor Can Help
Stop by The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you and get the best information for health, wellness and fitness. The Joint’s doctors of chiropractic help people of all ages find the best solutions on a daily basis.
When you come in, your chiropractor will explain how your spinal health affects your overall health. A gentle targeted spinal adjustment may relieve any aches and pains that you have and provide a fresh shot of energy, or better sleep.
Weekly 15-minute spinal adjustments may be the best way to stay at your peak as you tackle all of your spring and summer projects.
Here are some tips from the American Chiropractic Association to avoid injury.
How to Lift, Carry and Tote
As you clean out the garage, spruce up the patio or redo a room or two, don’t overdo it when lifting and toting.
- Avoid twisting while lifting
- Bend at the knees and lift with legs and back
- Or kneel on one knee close to the item with other foot flat on the floor
- Keep items close to the body when lifting and carrying
- Get help if an item is too heavy
How to Plant and Prune
Staying healthy and safe as you trim the bushes or plant a garden requires attention to avoid muscle strain or joint pain. Always limber up before you begin with exercises like this one.
Hamstring stretch - Stand and put one heel up on a step or bench with the knee slightly bent. If you need to, hang on to a tree branch or door handle. Bend forward until you feel a slight pull at the back of the thigh. Hold for 20 seconds. Relax and repeat with the other leg.
