What is Knee Pain?

Knee pain is a prevalent condition that affects people of all ages. Knee pain may affect young women when they are at their adolescence or even before that, derailing a buoyant or at the very least enjoyable sports career. Regular exercise may cause it, and it's a frequent running injury. Knee problems may be physiological or genetic, or a knee pain may develop over time as one gets older.

It more frequently occurs in elderly people due to different arthritis types, significantly impacting the quality of life, as observed in many patients. Osteoarthritis (OA), a musculoskeletal disorder, is the most prevalent type of arthritis that appears to cause knee pain.

Athletes are more likely to have knee pain because their bodies go through many strains daily. Several common ailments are associated with the knee, including iliotibial band syndrome, runner's knee, and tendinitis.

Chiropractors may suggest exercises to strengthen the knees to treat OA and knee pain.


According to the study, chronic knee OA is the final consequence of a molecular cascading that begins after specific triggers and leads to permanent destruction of the articular cartilage.

While knee OA is caused due to many reasons, the research indicates that two have gotten a lot of attention in recent years. One is work-related OA that occurs on the knee, and the second is OA after a prior knee injury. A World Health Organization's study states that knee OA is expected to be the eighth most common cause of physical disability in men. It also expected to be the fourth most common cause of physical disability in women. Knee OA is linked with three main physical impairments. They're stiffness, knee pain, and reduced quadriceps strength, all of which are thought to lead to disease progression and physical disability.


Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lyme disease, reactive arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, infectious arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis are different types of arthritis that may afflict the knees.

Injury or Ailments

Meniscal injuries, cruciate ligament injuries, bursitis, tendinitis, loose bodies, dislocated kneecap, Osgood-Schlatter disease, Plica syndrome, and iliotibial band syndrome are some of the common knee ailments.


Patients work with chiropractors who can assist them to figure out which exercises are best for them at different pain and mobility levels. For treatment, researchers suggest patient educational programs, weight loss, coping techniques, exercise programs, and alternative therapy such as rolfing.

Exercise is beneficial because maintaining physical movement is critical. To do so, the muscles supporting the knees must be healthy and strong.

Minor improvements in quadriceps strength have been shown in studies to help decrease the chances of getting knee osteoarthritis and its development and the pain associated with it. Exercise supports the joint region and may benefit people with arthritis. It's important to choose the appropriate workouts and do them correctly.
