Chiropractic Care for Urbanites

By Paul Rothbart

Having been born and raised in Brooklyn, I can tell you, there are some great advantages to living in a big city. Everything you need is close by. Supermarkets, department stores, restaurants, theaters, museums. Many within walking distance. Major cities generally have excellent mass transit systems giving access to even more places without needing a car. While not for everyone, many people thrive on big city life. But city living has its own issues that can be tough on your health. For the urbanite, chiropractic care may be very helpful in maintaining good health while enjoying all your city has to offer. Here are some potential problems.

Climbing Stairs

City people do a lot of walking and live and work in multi-story buildings. While the taller ones usually have elevators and escalators, this is not always the case. I grew up on the top floor of a four-story walk-up and climbed up and down those stairs every single day. Stair climbing is good for your legs and your heart, but it can also be very hard on the joints of the lower body. This is especially tough on older adults. Regular chiropractic care can keep those knees and ankles flexible and with full range of motion. This can relieve pain and help you get up and down with greater ease.

Greater population density means you get closer to more people on a day-to-day basis. Colds, flus, and other ailments spread through proximity to sick people. This requires a strong immune system to fight off these bugs. Chiropractic care has been found by some people to aid their immune systems. Frequent handwashing, avoiding those known to be sick, and using hand sanitizer are still the best line of defense against illness, but it is worth trying chiropractic care. It may be helpful.

As much fun as there is to be had in a big city, there is also a lot of stress. Cities are noisy and crowded with lots of traffic. They get very hot in the summer and the fast pace of life can make some people anxious. There are people who have found that regular chiropractic visits help them better manage stress. This makes it easier to deal with the hustle and bustle of urban living.

Big cities can be wonderful places to live or work in. But they can be tough on your health. If you are urbanite, consider visiting The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is necessary and you may find that regular chiropractic care makes your city experience healthier and more pleasurable.
