Dealing With Daily Back Pain
By Paul Rothbart
Any part of the body can hurt occasionally and let's face it, life will always come with pain now and then. Back pain can be one of the hardest to deal with. Your ability to perform any type of task or chore is negatively impacted when your back hurts. Even sleep can feel impossible to achieve. If your back hurts on a daily basis it may feel like your life has come to a dead stop. Daily back pain can be managed and reduced by taking proper steps. Seeing a chiropractor regularly can also be very helpful.
Proper Lifting Technique
You may not be a bodybuilder or a powerlifter, but everyone's life involves lifting or moving heavy objects occasionally. It is part and parcel of some occupations and carrying groceries, small children and pets, and moving furniture while cleaning can all take a toll on your back. Taking the time to use proper lifting techniques can prevent injury and minimize pain. Never lift using your back. Let your legs do the heavy work while your back remains straight. Also hold the load securely, close to your body, and properly balanced. Never twist your upper body. If you need to turn, rotate your entire body using your legs. For extremely heavy loads, get help or use a lifting device
Good Posture
Even if you never lift anything that weighs more than five pounds, you can damage your back and cause pain through practicing poor posture. Slumping and slouching while standing or sitting puts an unnatural curve in the spine that can cause disc problems. Maintaining a straight back is the key to posture. In addition to a straight back, your head should be up with your eyes forward. This will keep your neck straight and prevent problems in the neck vertebrae. Sit with both feet on the floor and when standing, keep your feet far enough apart to easily maintain balance.
See a Chiropractor
When it comes to back care, seeing a chiropractor may be the best thing you can do. A chiropractor can perform an examination and find any subluxations or other issues in the spine. They can then be adjusted, relieving pain, and putting everything back in place. A chiropractor can also treat problems in the joints and offer advice on posture, stretches that can help strengthen the back, and tips to avoid damage and pain. Regular appointments can help prevent future pain.
