What Are the Symptoms of Arm Pain?

By Madhusudhan Tammisetti

Arm pain may appear to be harmless, but it may be secondary to a variety of other health conditions. While most of the time, arm pain originates in the upper arm, it may occur anywhere along the length of the arms, and it may become difficult to use them efficiently.

Many people have transitory episodes of arm pain throughout their lives, but if it lasts for long periods, you should see your chiropractor to determine the underlying reason.

Arm pain symptoms aren't as minimal as you may think because pain may develop as a result of damage to the skin, bones, joints, nerves, soft tissue, or blood vessels. Pain is one of the symptoms of a health condition that may include many other symptoms.

Additional symptoms that occur in conjunction with arm pain should be observed to help your chiropractor plan a treatment.

Limiting Range Of Motion

The position of the joint where you're having trouble moving about may be a strong indication of the underlying problem. For instance, if moving your shoulders causes excruciating pain, and you're unable to do it freely, your chiropractor may suspect rotator cuff injury.

Carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as the existence of ganglionic cysts, which compress the nerves around the wrists, are a few reasons you're unable to flex your wrists.

Grip

Even if the source of the pain is not in the wrist, your grip may feel weakened. Pain in any of the main arm joints, such as the shoulder, wrist, or elbow, may cause weakness in the arms and face difficulty in gripping an object tightly. If you have numbness, be cautious. It may unintentionally inflict additional damage by underestimating an object's weight when lifting.

Swelling

Swelling, which is typically accompanied by pain and tenderness at the affected region, is a clear indication of an inflammatory process. Swelling near the joint is most often caused due to tendinitis or arthritis, while swelling on the upper or lower arm muscles, rather than the joints, may be due to muscle tears.

Tingling or Numbness

Tingling or numbness in the nerves may be a sign of a blood vessel problem or nerve injury. Nerve tingling or temporary numbness is more likely in those who have pre-existing illnesses such as diabetes.

Visit a chiropractor to help resolve wrist pain problems. A chiropractor may suggest some methods that include applying ice on the affected area or resting the arm until the pain subsides.

Applying ice may give short-term relief. It may help decrease acute inflammation and nerves' pain perception. Resting the arm when in pain may help in relieving the pain or reduce inflammation associated with it. Continuing work when in pain may aggravate it more, and resting the arm may help in healing.
